How to Beat Queen

Quick Strategy

Treat Queen as a two-stage consistency fight. While Torch Head Amalgam is alive, Queen spends her turns applying Chains of Binding, permanent Frail / Weak / Vulnerable, then repeatedly supporting the minion instead of attacking you. In most decks, kill Torch Head first rather than trying to push through Queen’s repeated 20 Block while Weak. After the minion dies, Queen becomes the attacker and her Strength-scaled multi-hit becomes the main clock. Retain, passive draw, generated cards, and transforming Bound cards are premium because Chains of Binding makes the first three cards drawn each turn Bound and allows only one Bound card to be played. Keep Weak or Strength reduction for the multi-hit turns and finish before repeated Enrage cycles make them unmanageable.

What This Fight Tests

Bound consistency

Chains of Binding can turn an otherwise strong five-card hand into a hand where several important cards are effectively unavailable. The deck needs Retain, passive draw, generated cards, transformation, or enough redundancy that one playable Bound card is sufficient.

Torch Head removal

Queen does not begin her normal attack cycle while Torch Head is alive. The default plan is therefore to remove the 211-HP Ascension minion before its Strength-scaled multi-hit becomes the main source of incoming damage.

Permanent debuff tolerance

You Are Mine applies extremely long Frail, Weak, and Vulnerable. Ordinary physical damage and Block remain impaired for the rest of the fight, so decks depending entirely on efficient base-value cards need substantially more scaling.

Multi-hit mitigation

Both Torch Head and Queen use multi-hit attacks, while Queen also adds Strength after the transition. Weak and Strength reduction therefore prevent much more damage here than they do against an ordinary single hit.

Key Decisions

Kill Torch Head first by default

While Torch Head is alive, it is the enemy actually attacking you while Queen keeps adding 20 Block to herself and strengthening the minion. Trying to rush Queen means pushing through repeated Block while permanently Weak and leaving the scaling attacker alive. I only reverse the kill order when the deck has exceptional damage that can overwhelm Queen directly.

Bound is a card-access problem, not just a card penalty

Chains of Binding makes the first three cards drawn each turn Bound, and only one Bound card can be played that turn. The failure state is drawing several defensive or payoff cards together and being allowed to use only one. I therefore value ways to create additional playable options more than simply adding another individually strong card.

Retain bypasses the normal Bound timing

A retained card was not newly drawn that turn, so it avoids being newly caught by Chains of Binding. Retain lets me carry a critical Block, Weak, damage payoff, or consistency card into the exact turn where I need it instead of gambling that the draw order leaves it playable.

Generated cards are extra functional hand size

Cards created during the turn were not among the cards caught by the original draw restriction. That makes in-combat card generation unusually valuable because it gives the turn playable options even when several natural draws are Bound.

Transforming a Bound card can free that slot

Transforming a Bound card removes the original Bound problem from that card. An effect such as Entropy can therefore convert what was effectively a dead option into another playable card for the current turn.

Save mitigation for the multi-hit

The dangerous Queen turn is not the 18-damage Execution. It is the Strength-scaled five-hit Off with Your Head while you are Vulnerable. Weak or Strength reduction gains multiplied value there, so I avoid spending the only application on a smaller single hit unless survival requires it.

Fight Plan

Queen Fight Plan

The raw move pattern tells you what is coming. This plan focuses on what I want the deck to accomplish before each dangerous part of the fight.

Phase 01

Chains and permanent debuffs

Establish enough consistency to function under Bound while beginning concentrated damage on Torch Head.

  • Expect Queen’s first turn to establish Chains of Binding rather than deal damage. Use the turn to identify which parts of the deck can bypass or compensate for Bound.
  • Begin concentrating damage on Torch Head instead of spreading physical damage into Queen’s much larger HP pool.
  • On the second Queen turn, plan around permanent Frail, Weak, and Vulnerable. From this point onward, printed Attack and Block numbers are no longer representative of their normal efficiency.
  • Use Retain, passive draw, generated cards, or transformation proactively rather than waiting for a turn where all the necessary defensive cards become Bound at once.
Watch for
  • Assuming a five-card hand means five usable options after Chains of Binding.
  • Splitting damage into Queen before establishing a realistic way to remove Torch Head.
Phase 02

Remove Torch Head

Kill the minion before Queen’s repeated support turns make its multi-hit too expensive to defend.

  • Focus Torch Head through its Tackle and Beam cycle. Beam is the most important minion attack because Strength scaling applies to every hit.
  • Use Weak or Strength reduction efficiently when the minion’s multi-hit is the current major threat.
  • Do not be distracted by Queen’s health bar while she is repeatedly gaining 20 Block. The practical defensive progress comes from removing the enemy that is actually attacking.
  • If the deck has enough burst to kill Torch Head now, convert it instead of waiting for a perfect setup while the minion continues receiving Strength.
Watch for
  • Leaving Torch Head at low HP for several extra turns while Queen continues strengthening it.
  • Using dense mitigation on one of the minion’s smaller single hits and then lacking it for Beam.
Phase 03

Queen attack phase

Survive the first Strength-scaled multi-hit and finish Queen before repeated Enrage cycles make later multi-hits unsustainable.

  • After Torch Head dies, immediately switch your defensive calculation from minion damage to Queen’s Off with Your Head → Execution → Enrage cycle.
  • Preserve Weak or Strength reduction for Off with Your Head whenever possible. Five hits multiply every point of Strength reduction.
  • Use Queen’s Enrage turn as a conversion window. That is the turn to establish the last necessary setup or push major damage rather than continuing to scale indefinitely.
  • Aim to finish before the third Queen multi-hit. By then repeated Strength growth, Vulnerable, Frail, and Bound consistency pressure can make ordinary defense unrealistic.
Watch for
  • Treating the minion kill as the end of the dangerous part of the encounter.
  • Using the Enrage turn on redundant setup when the deck already has enough damage to start closing the fight.

Dangerous Turns & Windows

Danger Window
Puppet Strings

Queen applies Chains of Binding 3. The first three cards drawn each turn become Bound, and only one Bound card can be played that turn.

Response: Increase functional card access rather than relying on one perfect five-card draw. Retain, passive draw, generated cards, and transformation all give the deck ways to act outside the original Bound set.
Danger Window
You Are Mine

Queen applies 99 Frail, 99 Weak, and 99 Vulnerable. For practical purposes, the deck now has to finish the encounter while operating under those debuffs.

Response: Stop evaluating cards at their ordinary base efficiency. Persistent defense, scaling, Strength reduction, generated value, and non-physical output become relatively more important.
Danger Window
Torch Head Beam

Torch Head’s Beam hits 8 × 3, and Queen continues strengthening the minion while it remains alive. Each additional Strength point is applied across all three hits.

Response: Prioritize killing Torch Head and line up Weak or Strength reduction with Beam when possible. Multi-hit mitigation becomes progressively more efficient as its Strength increases.
Danger Window
First Queen multi-hit

After Torch Head dies, Queen begins attacking. Off with Your Head is a five-hit attack, and the usual transition plus permanent Vulnerable can make the first multi-hit roughly a 45-damage defensive check in the high-Ascension matchup.

Response: Have Weak, Strength reduction, dense defense, potion support, or enough HP ready before killing the minion. Do not trigger the Queen phase with no answer for the first attack.
Danger Window
Third Queen multi-hit

Queen repeatedly uses Enrage to add Strength between attack cycles. With Vulnerable still active, later five-hit turns scale beyond what many ordinary Block plans can reasonably cover.

Response: Treat the third multi-hit as a practical deadline. The deck should be converting its established engine into lethal well before this becomes the normal combat loop.
Before the Fight

How to Prepare for Queen

I use these checks before committing the final rewards, upgrades, shop purchases, and potions leading into the Boss.

ConsistencyCritical

What happens when three drawn cards become Bound?

Ready when

Retain, passive draw, generated cards, transformation, or enough redundancy keeps important offense and defense accessible even when several natural draws cannot all be played.

Warning

A deck can contain excellent defensive cards and still fail if several of them are drawn together as Bound cards and only one is usable.

Minion damageCritical

Can I remove 211 HP from Torch Head quickly?

Ready when

The deck has enough concentrated damage to kill the minion before repeated Queen support and Beam cycles make it the dominant scaling threat.

Warning

Slowly damaging Queen while leaving Torch Head alive usually preserves the most dangerous part of the encounter for too long.

Strength reductionHigh

Can I weaken a multi-hit turn?

Ready when

Weak or Strength reduction can be available for Torch Head Beam or Queen’s five-hit Off with Your Head rather than being consumed on a smaller attack.

Warning

Both phases contain multi-hit attacks, so every point of enemy Strength becomes more expensive than it appears from a single-hit calculation.

RetainHigh

Can I carry a critical card past the draw restriction?

Ready when

At least one important defensive, damage, or consistency card can be retained into the turn where it is required instead of depending entirely on fresh draw order.

Warning

Drawing the right card is not enough if Chains of Binding makes it one of several Bound cards you wanted to use that turn.

Generated cardsHigh

Can the deck create new playable options during the turn?

Ready when

In-combat card generation provides useful offense, defense, or utility without relying entirely on the cards already restricted by Bound.

Warning

A deck whose entire turn is limited to the original natural hand is much more exposed to bad Bound distributions.

Queen damageHigh

Can I finish before repeated Enrage cycles?

Ready when

Once Torch Head dies, the established engine can deal 419 HP worth of meaningful progress quickly enough that Queen does not reach several strengthened multi-hit cycles.

Warning

The Queen phase contains a turn off through Enrage, but that turn also makes every future multi-hit harder to survive.

PotionMedium

Can one potion solve the first Queen multi-hit?

Ready when

A Strength-down, Weak, defensive, or other appropriate potion has a defined job on the first dangerous Queen attack after Torch Head dies.

Warning

A potion that looks mediocre in an ordinary fight can be extremely efficient when it reduces every hit of a Strength-scaled multi-hit.

Character Matchups

Queen by Character

The Boss does not change between characters, but the part of the fight that matters most often does. These notes focus on what each character should adjust rather than repeating the general strategy.

Silent has several natural answers to Queen. Retain keeps important cards outside the fresh-draw Bound problem, Tools of the Trade improves effective card access, and Piercing Wail is exceptionally valuable against Strength-scaled multi-hit turns. After Image can also provide defense through normal card play instead of asking every defensive turn to rely on several conventional Block cards surviving Chains of Binding.

Prioritize
  • Use Retain to carry the defensive or damage card that must be available on the next dangerous turn.
  • Value passive card access because additional options reduce the chance that Bound removes the whole defensive line.
  • Save Piercing Wail or another Strength-down effect for Torch Head Beam or Queen’s five-hit attack when possible.
  • Use the minion phase to establish the existing engine, then switch damage onto Queen aggressively after Torch Head dies.
Watch for
  • Drawing several Block cards together and assuming all of them will remain playable under Bound.
  • Spending Piercing Wail on a small single hit when a Strength-scaled multi-hit is approaching.

Defect benefits heavily from passive draw and in-combat generation because Queen attacks card access more than raw card quality. Machine Learning effectively gives the deck another chance each turn to find a usable option beyond the initial Bound cards, while generated cards and Orb output continue producing value without relying entirely on the restricted natural hand.

Prioritize
  • Value passive draw highly because it increases functional hand size every turn under Chains of Binding.
  • Use Orb output to maintain damage or defense even when the natural hand contains several Bound cards.
  • Use generated cards as additional playable options rather than depending on retrieving a Bound card from discard.
  • Have a deliberate plan for the first Queen multi-hit instead of assuming strong Orb scaling automatically solves the transition.
Watch for
  • Using Hologram or another retrieval effect to return a Bound card and expecting that card to become freely playable again.
  • Building excellent long-term Orb scaling while taking too long to remove Torch Head.

Necrobinder has a unique Queen timing advantage through Doom. If Torch Head dies from Doom after Queen has already taken her support action, the transition can avoid the usual extra Strength on Queen’s first attack, leaving that opening multi-hit weaker than in a normal minion kill. This makes the exact timing of delayed lethal materially valuable instead of Doom being only another damage source.

Prioritize
  • Default to killing Torch Head first even when Doom is the main damage engine.
  • When the position allows it, time Doom lethal so Torch Head dies after Queen has already acted for the turn.
  • Use the resulting weaker Queen transition to create a safer first multi-hit window.
  • Keep enough immediate defense available while waiting for delayed Doom damage; timing value does not justify taking lethal from the minion.
Watch for
  • Triggering Torch Head lethal immediately when waiting for the post-Queen-action Doom timing would create a safer transition.
  • Overcommitting to perfect Doom timing when the minion must die now for survival.
Failure Analysis

Common Queen Mistakes

These are the decisions that can make a deck look strong on paper but still fail this specific fight.

01

Rushing Queen while Torch Head is still alive

You send most damage into Queen because she is the named Boss and has the larger health bar.

Why it fails

Queen repeatedly gains 20 Block while Torch Head remains the active attacker and continues receiving support. You are also permanently Weak, which makes forcing physical damage through that Block even less efficient.

Better decision

Kill Torch Head first unless the deck has exceptional direct damage that can clearly overpower Queen’s defensive loop.

02

Counting five drawn cards as five playable cards

You judge defensive consistency from normal hand size without accounting for Chains of Binding.

Why it fails

Three newly drawn cards can be Bound, and only one Bound card can be played. Several strong cards in the same hand can therefore behave like dead options.

Better decision

Build functional hand size through Retain, passive draw, generated cards, transformation, or redundancy instead of raw card quality alone.

03

Retrieving a Bound card and trying to replay it

You use a recursion effect to bring back a card that was already Bound and expect the retrieval to remove the restriction.

Why it fails

Returning the card from discard does not automatically make the original Bound card freely playable again.

Better decision

Use retrieval on a different useful card, or use transformation / generation to create another playable option instead.

04

Using Strength reduction on the wrong attack

You spend Weak or Strength-down on a small single hit simply because the effect is available.

Why it fails

Torch Head and Queen both have multi-hit turns. Reducing enemy Strength on a three-hit or five-hit attack multiplies the defensive return of each point removed.

Better decision

Preserve the effect for Beam or Off with Your Head unless using it earlier is necessary to survive.

05

Ignoring permanent Frail, Weak, and Vulnerable

You continue evaluating basic Attack and Block cards as though their normal printed efficiency still applies.

Why it fails

You Are Mine applies extremely long debuffs, so the entire remaining encounter is played under reduced physical damage, reduced Block efficiency, and increased incoming damage.

Better decision

Lean harder on scaling, passive defense, mitigation, card generation, and other effects that remain functional despite the permanent debuff package.

06

Killing Torch Head without planning the transition

You take minion lethal immediately and only afterward consider what Queen does next.

Why it fails

Removing Torch Head activates Queen’s offensive phase. Her five-hit attack is especially dangerous while you are Vulnerable and after Strength has entered the calculation.

Better decision

Before lethal, confirm the next Queen turn is covered by Weak, Strength reduction, dense defense, potion support, or enough HP.

07

Scaling through the third multi-hit

The deck survives the first Queen attack cycle, so you continue adding Powers or setup instead of closing the fight.

Why it fails

Enrage repeatedly adds Strength and every point is multiplied across the five-hit attack. The later multi-hits eventually outrun ordinary defense, especially under Vulnerable and Frail.

Better decision

Once the engine is functioning, use Enrage turns to convert into lethal. Treat the third multi-hit as a practical deadline rather than another routine cycle.
